Thanks, Kristi Hemmelfart

Long weekends are the greatest. And it seems like I've had several lately so I'm pretty happy... This weekend was Wednesday-Sunday off thanks to some Kristi Hemmelfart  for giving us a holiday.  On  Wednesday, I just had a relaxing day full of reading Born to Run and getting inspired by these superhuman Tarahumara people and Jenn Shelton , who I basically wish I was. But READ THAT BOOK! It's awesome, fascinating, challenging and inspiring.   My Thursday actually started at 6:30am, on a holiday, with no alarm! But I used it and went for a super nice run, putting that inspiration from the Tarahumara into action and running TWO whole miles more than my recent runs (previous statement to be read with sarcasm, as these folks run 435 in two days.) But ya gotta start somewhere, right? At the very end of my run, the rain started that would soon  ruin my plans of biking to the city,  completely soak me on the way to the station, and cause...

My Letters

Dear long weekends,  the excitement and love you bring will never fade. I can't assure my bank account the same.  Dear Megan and Molly,  what a great time a movie, cheap wine, a fountain, and ponies can be with you girls.  Dear new Swedish friends,  you were the most amazing, entertaining, happiest, best dressed dancers I've ever seen. I hope with all my hopes to see you again. Thanks, Jonatan and Catharina for introducing these awesome people. Dear $6.99 leather jacket,  I'm so excited to have found you at the Fleamarket today. Rest assured, you will be put to use and loved dearly. And thanks, Sune for spotting your broke lady so I can try to be cool.  Dear super awesome  Sweet potato hash browns,    you filled my tummy with rays of sunshine.  Dear Bella,  (Molly's 88 year old roommate!) you've been added to my list of fascinating people I want to write a book about. And you were just as sweet as...

Girls Night, Love Day, Puppets, and Gospel Music

Before continuing this blog, I can't believe I haven't introduced Megan and Molly yet. They came into the picture, also thanks to the previous au pair, Rebecca, who knew Molly. Megan and Molly are two beautiful half Scottish/Danish sisters.Molly previously au paired here and is now working here, while Megan is starting out au pairing here. They're both such incredibly nice, fun girls to be around. It's always a good time with them! I'm so glad to have met these great girls here. :)  Friday   Girls' night with Jen, Maria, and Megan with plenty of venting + laughing at children, especially them getting hurt.  Thomas ended up stealing Maria away.  Jen and I ended up at Charlie's.  Ended the night with Sune time when his guys' night was done. :)  I just love getting his super happy, big hugged greetings like on this night.  Saturday         Chose to celebrate "Charlotte and Anne-Li...

Open-Mic, Elephants, and Polish Birthdays

Last Wednesday, Sune and I  went to an awesome open mic at Drop In for him to meet a girl he might sing with. There were so many great bands and it was awesome seeing him play... He's so good! And so cute. And I'm not biased at all! ;)  Some guy kept telling me how hott and amazing Sune was. I obviously agreed.                        Lisa, the girl Sune was meeting to play with, was a really cool character. She was so nice and just very unique. We both said how she was "just an interesting human." A good singer too. She has a cool, blues style, with lots of attitude during her song. She had a pretty interesting story too... She's from Vermont/New York, lived in China for 9 months and then moved here with her Danish boyfriend.                      I got to meet Sys Bjerre ...

Oh, London

I a rrived in London Saturday and met up with Kelli. We went out to meet some of her friends at Urban Bar... But not before taking a slight (two hour) detour to a slightly ghetto area. But we made it to the bar and all was well. I got quite tired and was nearly ready to go home before some entertaining people reeled me in with their awesome dance moves. So the jacket was taken back off and my second wind arrived. I'm so glad it did too because it was one interesting night.         I got to witness the owner "lighting his crotch on fire," like I'd hear about, was handed an umbrella proceeded by "Raining Men" coming on the bar getting sprayed with water. Then T here was an old lady with some crazy dance moves (mostly on a table) that took me back to Janice days (the token old lady frequenting the Jax Beach bars).  'Twas  soon time to go home at around 2am ...

Ramblin'

Three weekends ago, Jen and I met for lunch in the city for some burgers and onion rings at a place called Haché. Afterwards, we checked out the Glass Market for my first time which was pretty cool... Just lots of different food places. I, of course, got some coffee and a pastry. Jen had to go back for dinner, but I decided to stay in the city. I wandered around all day, spent entirely too much money (but got a super awesome purse so I don't really regret it), found where I'll be getting my tattoo done (finally!) and eventually wound up at Charlie's to wait for Jen to come back out. When she made it back, we stayed there for a little bit, then tried a new Charlie's that wasn't so good, and ended at The Moose where we ran into Bogdan and his friends for his last night in Copenhagen.        It had been a really fun hanging out with Jen, but I ended up getting bummed and calling it a night... But not before taking a c...

Mischa, Metros, Meat, and Mishaps

After a full day of celebrating Christopher's birthday... We had Mischa's going away party at good ol' Charlie's.  So many people came out, with everyone in good spirits.  Mark, one of the English bartenders, played his cover songs with his country accent that I later told him to ditch.  Eventually, we moved to The Viking, where we got special treatment and could stay after hours... At least I think that's what happened.  We added a Danish Maria and a cool Polish girl, Ewelina, to the group of friends.   Climbed through Mischa's windows (mainly for the effect) at 7:30am  Conclusions : Copenhagen is great so far. I've met so many awesome people already, and even at 5am, this city is still well alive with people on the streets. The next day...  we met up with Anne-Lise for a chill day at Christiania Followed by a very entertaining night ride (extra thanks to Christiana), sitting in the front of the Metro. We felt like little ...

Wildfire, Sally Sue, and Konitchiwa

Super unfortunately, my phone was stolen two weeks ago... No phone, internet, or camera for over a week... Did this week really happen without proof through Facebook statuses, check-ins, photos, or blog posts? I'll just have to do my best to recall the last week with my good old-fashioned memory.    The weekend of the pick pocket was a really good one aside from this unfortunate event. Mischa, Maria and I joined forces for another great weekend. Wait, I don't think Maria has even been introduced to the blogging world. This girl is an incredibly funny, pink-haired English lass that we welcomed into our group. I'm so glad this chick has come around to continue the adventures once Mischa very unfortunately returns to South Africa in October.                                                         These weekends consisted of: ...

Tivoli and Rugby

Adding another great week to the list for my time in Denmark. Last Tuesday, I went to an international gathering for students at DTU (Denmark Technical Institute) at the Cellar Bar. I met a couple cool people there from Belgium (Ruben), Canada, France, and Denmark and met back up with a couple of them on Friday night. We went to see one of their Spanish friends play a Latin set at a bar in the city. On our way there, we were a bit worried at how this place would be considering it was on the street well known for its... Services. But we got to the Luna Bar and it wound up being really fun. The band was actually excellent , and had everyone dancing. Ruben and his friends were a lot of fun to hang out with.          On Saturday, I went to Tivoli, the second oldest theme park, with the family and met Claus' parents and sister there. It's no wonder Tivoli inspired Walt Disney to do his own thing. It's a beautiful  amusement par...
