Must Be the Viking Blood

In the States, I often wondered why I didn't see more hott people just wandering around. In fact there were times I'd get annoyed at the lack of attractive people. I don't think that's gonna happen here... Beautiful people everywhere. Seriously. Seafood guy? Gorgeous. Bakery guy? Model. Random bikers? Consider turning around and changing destinations... It's crazy. I went from being discouraged by the amount of ugos to wondering how there's so many beautiful people everywhere. We've practically got this guy running around the streets everywhere. It must be the Viking blood giving them tall, sculpted bodies, beautiful, blonde locks, and striking blue eyes. Who knows.

Tivoli and Rugby

Adding another great week to the list for my time in Denmark. Last Tuesday, I went to an international gathering for students at DTU (Denmark Technical Institute) at the Cellar Bar. I met a couple cool people there from Belgium (Ruben), Canada, France, and Denmark and met back up with a couple of them on Friday night. We went to see one of their Spanish friends play a Latin set at a bar in the city. On our way there, we were a bit worried at how this place would be considering it was on the street well known for its... Services. But we got to the Luna Bar and it wound up being really fun. The band was actually excellent , and had everyone dancing. Ruben and his friends were a lot of fun to hang out with.          On Saturday, I went to Tivoli, the second oldest theme park, with the family and met Claus' parents and sister there. It's no wonder Tivoli inspired Walt Disney to do his own thing. It's a beautiful  amusement park with incredible flowers everywhere (appa

"How to Look Like a Dane"

The whole time I've been here I've just been amazed at how different the style is. And it's hard to explain it but here's a blog that does an excellent job. http://copenhannah.tumblr.com/post/14228929903/how-to-look-like-a-dane I dunno if I can follow the color rule tho. And I'll have to work on the shoes.

Freetown, Pride, and Sun

After a long week of cleaning, watching the kids, and adjusting to everything, it was practically a necessity I went out on Friday. After much debate since going out seemed like such a production with catching trains, meeting up with people, and making my way back home, I wasn't sure I was confident enough to make the trek. But I finally decided I would have to learn eventually so I might as well just go for it.         I'm feeling accomplished like a grown up, as I was able to make it to the train station, switch to the metro, bike to Christiania, and meet up with Mischa, a girl the previous au pair hooked me up with.         To tell you a LITTLE about this Christiania, or "Freetown Christiania," although you'll need to look it up and come with me here to really know what it's all about, I'll just start with the history. It started as a military barracks in the 1600s for some King Charles with some roman numerals thrown in. By the 1970s though, i

Settling In

Over the last week, I've explored some of the city of Copenhagen, went on the prettiest run in trails near the lake right by the house, had relaxing afternoons laying out (European style) on the dock by the lake, drinking coffee on the patio enjoying the Danish air, riding my bike everywhere to try to learn my way around, trying my best to learn some Danish, went on a bike ride and had a picnic by the lake with the youngest two and Lotte, tried some delicious Danish meals, and much more. Everything seems more fun/relaxing/enjoyable. Their strawberries are like twenty times better than American strawberries, their apples, eggs, potatoes, and water all seem to taste better. Well, definitely their water compared to Jacksonville's. Even cleaning is more enjoyable... Opening all the windows and doors to enjoy the cool air, airing the blankets and pillows out on the balcony, taking breaks to sit on the patio... Going to pick up Clara Louise and Christopher from school t

Hej fra Danmark!

So I've finally arrived in Denmark and all settled in already. It's awesome in every way so far; the parents are so friendly and cool, the kids are adorable, the weather is amazing (I'm the only one walking around in shorts, a T-shirt and sandals, of course), the house is a beautiful, cozy home built around 1921, I just got done with a little explorative walk and the neighborhood/area is picturesque with flowers everywhere, adorable homes, and a lake nearby... It's just wonderful.           Yesterday, after a little confusion about where to meet up, using a stranger's phone (as always), and wandering around a bit, Lotte and one of the kids picked me up from the airport greeting me with the sign shown below. We made it back to the house after a little detour (I guess Lotte gets distracted driving too!), and we had coffee. We had breads and cake they got from the bakery for me to try, and they were all delicious.           I'm so exited and happy to be h
