Can't Stop Won't Stop, August-October Extravangazas

I got to have one of the busiest couple months maybe ever from August til October over here. So I figured I'd blog about it?

August 27-30: fly to Jax, drive to Tampa the nexts day for cousin's lovely wedding. The weddings have certainly slowed down in this old age of ours, so it was nice to have theirs (and the next) this summer. Celebrating with the family including my Mimi was special too.

August 31-September 3rd: back to working time! Rocking and rolling with all the scheduling, planning, nonsense of getting the year started.

September 3-6: one freaking dreamy Orcas Island weekend to celebrate Tara and Avery's marriage. Bioluminecient kayking, whale watching, hiking with magical views... A celebratory dinner with giant windows with the water views... And this crew was quite entertaining with so many humors and characters in the mix. Very much enjoyed.

September 10-13: NYC for an epic girls weekend for Harry Styles dazzled in sparkles. We danced all night with the love of our life, endulged in lasagna flights, cocktails, rooftop bars, espresso martinis, tiramisu lattes, thai brunch... We laughed for 90 minutes straight during Titanique. I have never laughed so consistently and so hard. Incredible show. Cried with the girls as we go through some tough life shit. Solidarity, love and friendship continue through it all.

September 14-18th: busiest work week maybe of my life. Maybe the most stressful. I even cried at work one day. But no shingles-- I'll leave shingles to that one summer of 2011 or something. Dylan's parents also came into town Tuesday-Thursday, so on top of the Wild Wild Work, I was mowing the lawn and cleaning the house at 9pm on Monday, cooking dinner Tuesday and Wednesday nights...

September 19-20: We finally got to visit Mt. Rainier! We stayed one night with the Kennedys at the lodge and thoroughly enjoyed a slow walk through the Nisqualy Trail, discovering flowing rivers and waterfalls through the "birding binoculars." The fall colors were unreal. It really is a magical place. The amount of cars certainly added some chaos and distracted a bit (FDT), but still. What a place.

September 26 prepping for a baby shower on the 27th! Woohoo!

September 27: succesful, sweet baby shower for Ilana. We even got to name her baby with a madlib style game-- Piek Orion it is. ;)

October 1: Jungle concert with Tara and Avery

October 2: Halloween night market with Katie and friends!

October 3: Smutty Book club time. A ridiculous vampire themed book very lossely bbased in Portland with government conspiracies included.

October 6: Work all day, workout, last workout beers, and an overnight flight to Captiva!

October 7-12, Captiva time! Dive into the details here .

October 7-20, Lowey-Ball Family of Four unites with the Ross-Kennedy clan in Portland. Pretty much while I was flying to Florida, they were flying to Portland, so after Captiva I came home to them being in my home!! This was their first visit out here, getting to meet their newest little one. It was a visit filled with home-cooked meals, imagination, bike rides galore, playing in the backyard, and a side of crying and barking... it was a lot, but it was also a lot of fun and extra special.

Other October things: You can See Everything movie to blow our minds, Kennedy school soak and dinner at Gumba (incredible pasta time-- thanks to the girls for this birthday gift card), Wildwood movie time!

I lead our first annual spooky bike ride with Anton and Chrissy. The ride inititally had us starting a a cemetery with a scavenger hunt for some poor Margaret and several haunted pubs, hotels, and antique shops along the way to our tunnel tour. This plan got derailed a litlte when our dinner ran late (not the worst problem to have) so the cemetery was already closed. Then the first pub had a ticketed event (oops) so we headed right to the haunted shanghai tunnel tour that wound up having no haunted shanghai tunnels! Instead we did a walking tour through Old Town, where I think the Halloween partiers were more interesting than the ghost tour.... Anway, you live spooky bike ride tour and you learn. We'll try again next year with high hopes!

Gosh I almost forgot about our little beach trip the weekend after my birthday! We went and stayed in Yachats for just one lovely night. Dylan got to surf with Anton before we headed farther south to get to our spot. We'd planned on hiking but wound up just chilling in town, enjoying a sunset walk from the hotel and letting the boys run wild amonst the rocks and starfish.

Tivoli and Rugby

Adding another great week to the list for my time in Denmark. Last Tuesday, I went to an international gathering for students at DTU (Denmark Technical Institute) at the Cellar Bar. I met a couple cool people there from Belgium (Ruben), Canada, France, and Denmark and met back up with a couple of them on Friday night. We went to see one of their Spanish friends play a Latin set at a bar in the city. On our way there, we were a bit worried at how this place would be considering it was on the street well known for its... Services. But we got to the Luna Bar and it wound up being really fun. The band was actually excellent , and had everyone dancing. Ruben and his friends were a lot of fun to hang out with.          On Saturday, I went to Tivoli, the second oldest theme park, with the family and met Claus' parents and sister there. It's no wonder Tivoli inspired Walt Disney to do his own thing. It's a beautiful  amusement par...

Hej fra Danmark!

So I've finally arrived in Denmark and all settled in already. It's awesome in every way so far; the parents are so friendly and cool, the kids are adorable, the weather is amazing (I'm the only one walking around in shorts, a T-shirt and sandals, of course), the house is a beautiful, cozy home built around 1921, I just got done with a little explorative walk and the neighborhood/area is picturesque with flowers everywhere, adorable homes, and a lake nearby... It's just wonderful.           Yesterday, after a little confusion about where to meet up, using a stranger's phone (as always), and wandering around a bit, Lotte and one of the kids picked me up from the airport greeting me with the sign shown below. We made it back to the house after a little detour (I guess Lotte gets distracted driving too!), and we had coffee. We had breads and cake they got from the bakery for me to try, and they were all delicious.       ...

Oh, London

I a rrived in London Saturday and met up with Kelli. We went out to meet some of her friends at Urban Bar... But not before taking a slight (two hour) detour to a slightly ghetto area. But we made it to the bar and all was well. I got quite tired and was nearly ready to go home before some entertaining people reeled me in with their awesome dance moves. So the jacket was taken back off and my second wind arrived. I'm so glad it did too because it was one interesting night.         I got to witness the owner "lighting his crotch on fire," like I'd hear about, was handed an umbrella proceeded by "Raining Men" coming on the bar getting sprayed with water. Then T here was an old lady with some crazy dance moves (mostly on a table) that took me back to Janice days (the token old lady frequenting the Jax Beach bars).  'Twas  soon time to go home at around 2am ...
