Nebraska Wedding and South Dakota Summer

If you follow my Instagram, it may look like my whole life is laying on the bed with my puppy, but it's actually been quite a busy summer! I quit work July 25th to have a month off before school starts and I've been enjoying every minute of it.
The day after my last day, I flew right out to Omaha for my baby cousin's wedding. Pre-wedding, we ventured to the zoo which was quite impressive-- you would need a full day to see it all.

The wedding was a blast at the Strategic Air Command Museum. Liesl and I sat back and admired their Georgia Tech friends' dance moves. We laughed at our incapabilities to move our bodies in such cool, uninhibited ways. Grateful for all the time chatting with Aunts, Uncles and Gramps. Man we got some good fam.

I learned new things about Uncle Kenneth and Mama at dinner downtown. I never knew Kenneth was such a classical music enthusiast and mama was so involved in women's rights back in the day- protesting to wear pants in high school and a women's march in Tally. Go, Mama.

I rode back with the Ross girls to South Dakota, stopping in Sioux Falls to visit more family and friends. In just a week with the girls, I enjoyed several runs that showed me how beast Liesl is- pushing two girls in a stroller up the hills is no joke. We had park time and shared some of our favorite recipes and desserts. Liesl makes a mean Crème brûlée I'll be attempting this soon.

We braved the trek with the RV and munchkins to stay two nights in the Black Hills. A rain and hail storm blessed us with a cozy little afternoon in the camper with hot chocolate and all. We got fancy with our s'mores adding strawberries to some and Reese's to others. Both recommended. Adaleigh and I walked around meeting all the camping neighbs. Adaleigh is another Ross that "doesn't meet a stranger." Sylvan Lake gave us a perfect afternoon hike and picnic on the rocks.

Some conclusions from my trip:
Liesl is even more supermom than I realized.
Traveling with kids will be harder than I think Dylan and I realized. But we can do it, right?!
It's amazing seeing the mind of a toddler. While reading a book about dinosaurs, I pointed out the picture of a meteor crashing into the earth on one of the pages as an ironic topic the dinos were learning about in school. This lead to the sweetest, most inquisitive convo with Adaleigh with her worrying for the "sad dinos" and how they'll never live again. She proceeded to let others know throughout the week that it was a ball of fire that may have killed the poor dinos.
It's fantastic to see that child-like wonder again- seeing Adaleigh shout "SPACE!" with the most excitement as she pointed to a star. And Carlia's sweetest touch cupping the baby goat's head in her hands at Old MacDonald's Farm. Or getting excited about a rock. You never know.

What a wonderful 9 days.

My nieces are the cutest.
I want to and should give every mama doing this a high five from now on. They are strong.

Tivoli and Rugby

Adding another great week to the list for my time in Denmark. Last Tuesday, I went to an international gathering for students at DTU (Denmark Technical Institute) at the Cellar Bar. I met a couple cool people there from Belgium (Ruben), Canada, France, and Denmark and met back up with a couple of them on Friday night. We went to see one of their Spanish friends play a Latin set at a bar in the city. On our way there, we were a bit worried at how this place would be considering it was on the street well known for its... Services. But we got to the Luna Bar and it wound up being really fun. The band was actually excellent , and had everyone dancing. Ruben and his friends were a lot of fun to hang out with.          On Saturday, I went to Tivoli, the second oldest theme park, with the family and met Claus' parents and sister there. It's no wonder Tivoli inspired Walt Disney to do his own thing. It's a beautiful  amusement par...

Hej fra Danmark!

So I've finally arrived in Denmark and all settled in already. It's awesome in every way so far; the parents are so friendly and cool, the kids are adorable, the weather is amazing (I'm the only one walking around in shorts, a T-shirt and sandals, of course), the house is a beautiful, cozy home built around 1921, I just got done with a little explorative walk and the neighborhood/area is picturesque with flowers everywhere, adorable homes, and a lake nearby... It's just wonderful.           Yesterday, after a little confusion about where to meet up, using a stranger's phone (as always), and wandering around a bit, Lotte and one of the kids picked me up from the airport greeting me with the sign shown below. We made it back to the house after a little detour (I guess Lotte gets distracted driving too!), and we had coffee. We had breads and cake they got from the bakery for me to try, and they were all delicious.       ...

Crater Lake Birthday {Dylan's 40th}

Dylan has never been a big birthday celebration guy. This year when I asked him what he wanted to do, he said something like, "I don't know. Maybe get some nice dinner around town somewhere?" But I on the otherhand  must celebrate birthdays. Especially Dylan's. This guy deserves a memorable celebration.  So I insisted we go to Crater Lake and it was so worth it. What an incredible, jaw dropping, thought provoking place. The first night, we sat enjoying the bluest waters with the perfect lighting. We camped at Mazama where we were all set up with our new camping boiler thing to cook up our freeze dried camping meals, new headlamps, coffee plans... and then ate some hot chili and a meal at the campground lodge. haha We at least enjoyed out coffee at the tent the next morning.  The next day was filled with three fantastic hikes to see the Watchman Lookout for epic views of this like 2000' deep, 7700 year old crater. Then we got a lovely wildflower loop and waterfall ...
