Summer Part 2 (July )

So I do work in July, but we still had lots of good summer fun.

 Visitors

First up, we had a lovely time with Amanda and Stephen! This was their first time visiting us in Oregon (missed out on a Pacific City visit) and their first time coming to our home! So that was fun. I've known these two since middle/high school, so it was fun having them stay at our place like we're all adults or something. But we had a great visit with a bike ride to Gabbiano's, a Gorge trip for waterfalls, fruits, lavender ice cream, and guessing all the flavors at Stave and Stone Winery. We got to meet up with Amanda's West Coast fam too for a Japanese garden day (after a big breakfast at the house, walk to Alberta St. shopping, and a lunch at the Paper Bridge). It was a full day by 3pm.

My parents came up for a week at the end of July. Months ago, I had called Crater Lake Lodge just throwing out a long shot to try to get even just a night over the summer and they had one night open with a lake view, the day after dad's birthday. So I called them up and said, "hey you're coming to Oregon for Dad's birthday!" We fit in a lot of fun activities + good relaxing. This was their first time back to our house since the day we got our keys so that was special. We had a long day exploring the Gorge with  5 waterfalls (3 hikes), lunch in Hood River, and wine at Grateful Vineyard. The wine and cider choices were not our favorites but they actually brought some good laughs. They did have a phenomenal view of Mt. Hood with the vineyard and lavender all in front for a lovely walk. We even got in a boat ride on the Portland Spirit, seeing the city from the Willamette, learning all about our bridges.

I thought we had two whole weeks with them though and turned out we only got ONE. Lost em to the Colorado fam, but hopefully next time I can convince them to stay liike a whole month. Or season. Or just move here. We need so much more time for just going to the cafe nearby or hanging at the house or going fabric shopping and quilting together.

Seattle Bike Ride

Dylan and I went up to stay and bike with Kaila in Seattle. Our first day up, we walked all over their neighborhood and ate dinner with Chad, then did a ride around Magnolia Park seeing some fancy ass Seattle homes overlooking the water. So many cool water views here, just as we'd hoped for! We tried to watch Project Hail Mary when we got back but immediately fell asleep. The next day, we rode north east and started with some coffee at Tail Winds Cafe. From there we went through lots of lovely parks including the arboretum. Mont Blanc and Madison t were extra lovely with a farmer market that made me obsessed with boysenberry. No berry compares anymore. We had lunch on the patio of McGilvra's with more great water views with people swimming off the docks! Wish we'd remembered our dang swimsuits that were left in the car. Off we pedaled to go all the way to West Seattle to see the beaches. The water taxi was an extra treat after all that riding.

Tivoli and Rugby

Adding another great week to the list for my time in Denmark. Last Tuesday, I went to an international gathering for students at DTU (Denmark Technical Institute) at the Cellar Bar. I met a couple cool people there from Belgium (Ruben), Canada, France, and Denmark and met back up with a couple of them on Friday night. We went to see one of their Spanish friends play a Latin set at a bar in the city. On our way there, we were a bit worried at how this place would be considering it was on the street well known for its... Services. But we got to the Luna Bar and it wound up being really fun. The band was actually excellent , and had everyone dancing. Ruben and his friends were a lot of fun to hang out with.          On Saturday, I went to Tivoli, the second oldest theme park, with the family and met Claus' parents and sister there. It's no wonder Tivoli inspired Walt Disney to do his own thing. It's a beautiful  amusement par...

Hej fra Danmark!

So I've finally arrived in Denmark and all settled in already. It's awesome in every way so far; the parents are so friendly and cool, the kids are adorable, the weather is amazing (I'm the only one walking around in shorts, a T-shirt and sandals, of course), the house is a beautiful, cozy home built around 1921, I just got done with a little explorative walk and the neighborhood/area is picturesque with flowers everywhere, adorable homes, and a lake nearby... It's just wonderful.           Yesterday, after a little confusion about where to meet up, using a stranger's phone (as always), and wandering around a bit, Lotte and one of the kids picked me up from the airport greeting me with the sign shown below. We made it back to the house after a little detour (I guess Lotte gets distracted driving too!), and we had coffee. We had breads and cake they got from the bakery for me to try, and they were all delicious.       ...

Oh, London

I a rrived in London Saturday and met up with Kelli. We went out to meet some of her friends at Urban Bar... But not before taking a slight (two hour) detour to a slightly ghetto area. But we made it to the bar and all was well. I got quite tired and was nearly ready to go home before some entertaining people reeled me in with their awesome dance moves. So the jacket was taken back off and my second wind arrived. I'm so glad it did too because it was one interesting night.         I got to witness the owner "lighting his crotch on fire," like I'd hear about, was handed an umbrella proceeded by "Raining Men" coming on the bar getting sprayed with water. Then T here was an old lady with some crazy dance moves (mostly on a table) that took me back to Janice days (the token old lady frequenting the Jax Beach bars).  'Twas  soon time to go home at around 2am ...
