Here are some good olā recipe DONāTS I learned while baking this blueberry buckle.
#1 Donāt assume itās 2 CUPS of flour like youāre used to with cookies and breads. It may just be 2 TABLESPOONS.
#2 When it says āwarm butter,ā donāt heat it up til totally melted on the stove.
#3 If you just canāt wait for butter to warm naturally by sitting out and do the donāt in number 2, at least donāt put it in the freezer to ācool off,ā because you will forget it and you will get frozen butter, and youāll be putting it back on the stove to warm back up. But maybe try on LOW and actually watch it this time.
#4 Donāt be too cavalier about flour. It will get everywhere.
#5 Donāt give up. I poured my eggs and sugar mixture into my two heaping cups of flour and thought, hmph that just doesnāt look right. Do I need more milk? What is this supposed to even look like? After checking the recipe again and thinking surely SOMEWHERE it said 2 cups. I couldnāt have goofed that bad. āCupā and ātablespoonā donāt look anything alike. They even wrote out ātablespoonā so I couldnāt even get away with similar length confusion.
But I did not quit I washed those two dirty bowls and spatula, warmed some more butter (only mildly more careful the 2nd time around), and redid the whole darn thing. Well minus the topping at least since I hadnāt gotten quite that far.
And it was darn delicious. There wouldāve been a picture but I plated it tooo quick.
Good luck fellow bakers.
